Fluoroscopy Video
This year, EPHF is raising money for a new fluoroscopy unit. In 3月 of 2022, Dr. John Knudtson, Diagnostic Radiologist, joined EPH fulltime, which means expanded availability and services for Diagnostic Imaging. Dr. Knudtson is EPH’s first employed radiologist on the Medical Staff, and ensuring up-to-date equipment will enhance his ability to provide care to our community.

The current fluoroscopy unit at Estes Park Health was purchased refurbished 8 years ago and will be at end of life at the end of 2022. Because the machine is so old, the technology is dated and parts will no longer be produced to repair the machine starting in 2023.
Fluoroscopy is a medical imaging procedure that uses several pulses (brief bursts) of an X-ray beam to show internal organs and tissues moving in real time on a computer screen. Standard X-rays are like photographs, whereas fluoroscopy is like a video.

Procedures performed at EPH that use Fluoroscopy include:
- Imaging of the upper gastrointestinal tract with or without small bowel imaging
- Esophagrams
- Modified barium swallow tests (to assess swallow function)
- Joint injections
- Contrast injections
- Barium enemas
- Sniff tests (to check diaphragm function)
- Hysterosalpingography (ovarian tube patency)
- Foreign body removal
Conditions and Diagnoses Where Fluoroscopy is Used:
- Assess Heartburn
- Pain or Difficulty When Swallowing or Eating
- Acid Reflux
- Food or Fluid in Windpipe
- Assess Abdominal Pain
- Rectal Bleeding
- Chronic Diarrhea or Persistent Constipation
- Evaluate Ulcers, Tumors, Inflammation of the Esophagus, Stomach or Duodenum
- Hiatal Hernias, Abnormalities of the Muscular Wall of the Stomach
- Anatomical Problems in Infants
- Unexplained Vomiting, Severe Indigestion, Blood in Stool
- Assess Blockage of Fallopian Tubes
- View the Inside of the Uterus
- Injecting Medication Directly into a Joint
