Our Story

We serve the essential medical needs of the Estes Valley and visitors at the doorstep of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Estes Park Health opened its doors in 1975 as the Elizabeth Knutsson Memorial Hospital. In 1986, the name was changed to Estes Park Medical center and a Foundation was formed. In 2018, the name changed again to Estes Park Health to better reflect the continuum of care from the start of life to the end of life.

From the beginning, Estes Park Health has been supported by the Estes Valley community of 13,500 people. Property tax owners pay taxes to the Park Hospital District, contributing more than $3 million annually to help fund the organization.

Our values of compassion, respect, integrity, safety, and professionalism allow us to provide personal care in a small community. Our hospital is in a town that is a gateway to a popular national park. Four million tourists stream through Estes Park every year. Many of them use Estes Park Health Services.

In 2020, the addition of an Urgent Care Center broadened our reach to a new population of people. We also offer rehabilitation, infusion, surgery, inpatient and outpatient care, emergency care and transport, and home health and hospice.

Like many small, rural independent hospitals, Estes Park Health was challenged by the demands of the COVID pandemic. We are adapting to meet these obstacles and remain a vital, convenient resource for our unique population.

Community Events

Our employees are intimately involved with the Estes Park Health Foundation. This is the fundraising arm of our organization. Since 1986, the Foundation has partnered with Estes Park Health to engage the community and obtain philanthropic support. From the moment new employees go through orientation, they are offered ways to engage with the foundation.

For example, in 2022, Physicians Clinic Director, Lesta Johnson, won the Mrs. Rooftop Rodeo crown by raising more than $14,910 in donations that went directly to the EPH Infusion Center. Since its inception in 2017, Crowns for the Care has raised more than $189,000 to support cancer care at EPH. Here is information from our site regarding the Rooftop Rodeo, which we are a sponsor of as well.

Volunteers speak to the community on behalf of Estes Park Health and spread the message about the organization they work for. Pre-COVID community involvement included blood drives and health fairs.

Estes Park Health donates to the Estes Park Rotary Club's Duck Race every year. The Estes Park Rotary Duck Race Festival is held annually on the first Saturday in May. The Annual Duck Race continues a tradition started in 1989, which has returned more than $2.4 million (and counting) to local charities and groups! Yes, we actually race little yellow ducks down the river... it’s for charity, of course... but it’s also really fun! The whole Estes Park community gets quacky on the first Saturday of May for a fun-filled day!

Hear From Our Team

Dr. Bridget Dunn

Dr. Bridget Dunn has worked at Estes Park Health since 2008. She currently serves as the medical Chief of Staff.

“We need to be sure we are taking care of our community and people within the hospital,” Dr. Dunn said. “Our community is very generous and has always supported us, not only with their taxes but also with generous donations. We want to be able to take care of them. We feel very lucky because that doesn’t always happen. Some small rural hospitals are going away. We want to do whatever we can to stay open and to be able to take care of our community.”

Dr. Dunn likes the fact that Estes Park Health offers speedy medical services some larger hospital systems take weeks or months to provide.
